Investigation underway after shot fired near Bolton house

DETECTIVES have launched a probe after reports a shot was fired near a house in Bolton on Sunday.

Police were called at around 12.20pm to Dorchester Avenue, Breightmet, after a suspected firearm discharge that morning.

Investigators believe a dark Vauxhall Astra pulled up outside a house on the street.

Police say the driver then left the car and threw a brick at a parked car before the car's passenger fired a gun in the air.

No injuries have been reported and so far, no arrests have been made and officers are following all available lines of enquiry to identify those responsible.

Det Chief Insp Paul Rollinson, of GMP's Bolton district, said: "We're thankful that no one sustained any injuries during the incident but this is understandably a shocking and frightening thing to have occurred during the middle of the day.

"I want to reassure the community that we are working at pace and following all available lines of enquiry to ensure we identify and locate the people in the Vauxhall Astra and ensure they face the appropriate justice.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have seen a dark Vauxhall Astra in the area at the time to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.

"Our top priority is ensuring the community is kept safe and we have increased our visibility in the area but I would encourage anyone with worries or concerns to speak with officers."
