Brian Laundrie update Influencer under fire for sharing conspiracy theory as Gabby Petito memorial removed

'Bones' found at North Port reserve belong to Brian Laundrie: FBI

An internet personality with nearly 7 million followers on TikTok has come under fire for spreading a false conspiracy theory suggesting Brian Laundrie is still alive.

Tana Mongeau, who also has a large following on other social media such as Instagram, wrongly claimed that the remains found earlier this month were not those of Laundrie.

"I'm not joking," she wrote in TikTok message earlier this week. "I genuinely think something was placed there so that people would think the remains were him".

Ms Mongeau, who first came to public attention in 2017 with her "storytime" videos YouTube, also posts on OnlyFans and makes podcasts.

In the video, she claimed that "news sources confirmed" the remains found did not belong to Laundrie, before going on to "guarantee" that the deceased is "in Paris".

She came under fire from some of her followers, who accused her of using the case as an attention-seeking publicity stunt, which she denies.

Meanwhile, a memorial to Gabby Petito has been removed from in front of Brian Laundrie’s parents’ home by North Port city officials, almost two months since she was first reported missing.

The 22-year-old online celebrity, who has 5 million YouTube subscribers, also said in her video that “news sources confirmed” the remains found did not belong to Laundrie.

Mongeau didn’t state what “news sources” she was referring to, but the conspiracy theory has been circulating online for the last week. She then went on to suggest that the Laundrie family’s decision not to hold a funeral for him was suspicious.

“He is alive. And that’s the tea,” she said.

When asked if they had any CCTV footage from the night, the manager revealed “they did have surveillance video but didn’t know it was significant at the time and it has since been deleted”. The manager also denied claims that Petito and Laundrie had an argument at the cafe.

ICYMI: A makeshift memorial for Gabby Petito built on the Laundrie family’s front yard has been torn down.

On Thursday, the mini-memorial was removed by North Port police, fearing the items would be destroyed by inclement weather and disrupt drainage on the street.

“Ahead of severe weather today, the City of North Port has received several complaints about signs located on Wabasso Ave,” city spokesman Josh Taylor told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Per City Sign Code and storm water code, these signs are in violation and are not allowed in the road right-of-way.”
